Chiavari or folding chairs: which should you rent?

Stacked gold chiavari chairs with white cushions

These are the two chairs most events choose between, and the decision is usually framed as a budget question. It is really a question about what the room is for.

Choose chiavari when people will sit for a while

A chiavari is a proper dining chair. It has a cushion, an upright back, and it does not creak when someone leans into a conversation. For a wedding reception, an anniversary dinner or anything with speeches, guests are in that chair for three hours or more, and the difference is felt long before it is noticed.

It also disappears into photographs in a way folding chairs do not. Gold reads warm against ivory and blush linen; clear vanishes almost entirely, which is why it works in small rooms and busy gardens. Silver sits between the two.

Choose folding when the room turns over

For a kids' party, a magic show, a corporate briefing or a backyard birthday where people are up and down constantly, a folding chair is the better tool. It sets up in seconds, stacks out of the way when the dancing starts, and costs half as much — which on 120 guests is a meaningful saving to move into food or flowers.

Resin folding chairs also handle grass and damp better than a chiavari's narrower feet, which matters for an outdoor event in South Florida after an afternoon shower.

You are allowed to use both

The most common setup we deliver is not one or the other. It is chiavari at the dinner tables, where guests sit longest and cameras point most, and folding chairs for the ceremony rows or the overflow area. On ninety guests that is a few hundred dollars less than an all-chiavari order, and nobody in a photograph is sitting on a folding chair.

If your budget only stretches to chiavari for part of the event, put them where the cameras are.

The other options

Beyond these two we also stock ice phoenix and oval resin chairs — both clear, both $5 — which suit modern and garden settings where you want the seating to recede. And for the guest of honour there are gold throne chairs, single or double, which is a different decision entirely: nobody rents a throne for comfort.

See all of it with prices on the shop, or call and describe your event — we will tell you what we would put in that room.
